What is a C licence?
A class C licence is a commercial driving licence (CDL). This licence allows drivers to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle rating (GVWR) limit of 26,000 pounds. You must pass the written test before you can get the Class C license. To prepare for the test it is recommended you read the MTO Truck Handbook. This book includes the necessary driving skills and specific regulations truck drivers need to know. The handbook is available for purchase either online, at DriveTest or ServiceOntario centres, or in the majority of book stores.
After you have completed the written knowledge test, you can then move on to taking the driving test. You may be required to take a number of different driving tests, based on the type of vehicle you plan to drive. You can get the complete list of tests available on the MTO website.
When you have successfully completed the driving test, you will receive the class C licence. You'll then be able to drive the vehicle that matches your licence. You can add additional categories to your license by applying for them and passing the relevant tests.
Be aware that you must be at least 18 years old to drive in your province or territory, and 21 for interstate driving. In addition, you must to show proof of age, identity, and residency in order to be eligible for a license. These regulations are put in place to ensure that only certified people are operating these huge, complex vehicles.
What are the requirements for a C license?
There are many requirements you have to meet to get your C license. You must be able to pass both the written and road tests for skills. You must also satisfy all health and fitness requirements. How do I obtain my C license?
To get a C license, you must be over 18 and have passed a driver's medical. You must also hold a full licence (category A) and be able to pass the test for the C license.
